Crop Science Registration - Faqs

How can I tell if CSR material is available from the NPGS?

Generally, CSR material that is less than 5 years old must be obtained from the donor. Donor contact information is included in the accession area information. After 5 years, if the accession is added to the active collection, the NPGS will distribute seed. In either case the Availability Status will reflect the situation. Contact the curator if you need additional information or feel that the CSR accession should be added to the active collection.

How can I get a list of all the alfalfa cultivars that have been registered by the Crop Science Society of America?

To get a list of all the alfalfa cultivars that have been registered,

I know the CSR number, but not the NPGS identifier number. How do I find more information in GRIN on this accession? How do I find the NPGS identifier number?

To find out more on an accession, if you know the CSR number, go through either of the following set of steps:

  • Go through the steps in the above FAQ
  • Click on the group that contains the CSR you are interested in. Suppose you are looking for CV-105. Click on CV 101-150
  • Click on CV-105 for all the information we have on it in the system.

Or

  • Go to the NPGS page: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/
  • Click on Search GRIN to take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/searchgrin.html
  • Click on Accession Queries which will take you to: http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/acc/acc_queries.html
  • Since we are looking for a single accession, use the Simple queries section.
  • In the first field type your identifier, CV-105
  • Click on "Include historical and unavailable accessions
  • Click Submit Simple Query
  • Note: each crop has an exclusive set of CSR numbers, so your query will pull up a list of cultivars of various crops that all have the CV-105 identifier.
  • Click on the accession you want.

I am interested in knowing when a particular red clover was registered with Crop Science

  • Click on the cultivar group CV 101 to 150, to take you to the new cultivar page:
  • You find a table that lists the accessions. The far right column lists the registration dates of the accessions. or
  • In the second CSR example, the FAQ just above, you use the Simple or Complex Query method to find your accession. Look for CSR information under the Intellectual Property Rights, Crop Science Registration area. Here is where you will find the date of the registration.
