The mission of the USDA-ARS Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) is to support the national germplasm collections important to food and agriculture, collectively called the National Genetic Resources Program (NGRP). This is comprised of the National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS), the National Animal Germplasm Program, the National Microbial Germplasm Program, and the National Invertebrate Germplasm Program.

GRIN provides NGRP personnel and germplasm users access to databases that maintain passport, characterization, evaluation, inventory, and distribution data important for the effective management and utilization of national germplasm collections.

GRIN is operated by the Database Management Unit of the National Germplasm Resource Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland.
