GUIDED TOUR NOTE >> This screen displays the main ROBO browser. From it one can find information on Facilities, People, Scientific Names, and Countries in the database, and search for individual shipment/release records.
GUIDED TOUR NOTE >> To search ROBO for a facility, one must know the facility’s acronym. Use what information you have to help narrow the search. Select its parent organization, state, country, type of location or whether it has a quarantine facility or not.
GUIDED TOUR NOTE >> Another way to search for a facility acronym is to use your own computer’s browser's “find” function to search the “static” list of facilities using a key word or phrase, such as a known facility name, a state, or country. There are currently over 1000 facilities in the ROBO database for the years 1981-1985.
GUIDED TOUR NOTE >> The People file can be searched by entering last names (usually with the first letter capitalized). There are currently over 1900 people in the ROBO database for 1981-1985.
GUIDED TOUR NOTE >> The SCIENTIFIC NAMES file can be searched using several criteria. On that page:
By clicking on “Classification Uses” one can see the number of species in the database in each taxonomic category.
On that page, by clicking on a taxon, e.g., Braconidae, a list of all species in the group are listed.
From this list, a species can be selected (e.g., Stenobracon deesae), which contains a list of all importations and releases, and a list of target pests.
If a species’ name has been changed, this information is noted on the resulting record. (e.g. Opius longicaudatus)
Another approach to selecting a scientific name is to go to the SCIENTIFIC NAMES page and specify criteria. On that page, your selections could include A)Beneficials or Host/prey; B)Which Kingdom; C)Genus starting letter, D)Type of Beneficial, or E)Type of Host/Prey/Non-Beneficial. You can select any or none of these.
As an example, select A)Beneficials or Host/prey = "Host/prey"; B)Kingdom = "Plantae"; C)Genus starting letter = "A"; and leave the other two selections set to "Blank". When you then click on "Build List", you get a short list of species. Then click on "Ambrosia artemisiifolia" to see it's details. These details include the shipments and even the natural enemies of the species selected.
