"Developing strategies and technologies to preserve
plant genetic diversity in ex situ genebanks."
Banding pattern for microsatellite markers in wild rice are used to genotype individuals. Cooling rates of embryos are calculated from size and water content using heat transfer models. Winter buds from apple trees can be cryopreserved Quantitative traits of wild populations of beet are measured and will be compared with diversity measured from genomic data. Winter buds, retrieved from liquid nitrogen storage are grafted onto root stock. Volatile molecules produced from seeds during storage are sampled using gas chromatography. Cell structures of mint shoot tip follow cryoexposure show that leaf (L) and cortex (C) cells are plasmolyzed, but meristem (M) cells are intact.

blue bullet USDA, Agricultural Research Service, National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation is committed to making its web sites accessible to all USDA customers and employees. All of the agency web sites are undergoing review and redesign as necessary to ensure that they meet or exceed the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
blue bullet Many of our web sites currently meet the Section 508 accessibility standards. Furthermore, USDA-ARS, National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation continues to work on making all web sites accessible. Thank you very much for your patience through this redesign process. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement, please contact the Web Master of this page.
