Director  -  Dr. Henry Shands  (Ph.D. 1963).  Purdue University, major Genetics and Plant Pathology.  Conducted genetic research on barley while studying on a National Science Foundation Fellowship in Sweden from 1962-1963.  Served on a Purdue-USAID project in Brazil from 1963-1965 then at Purdue University before joining the DeKalb Seed Company in 1967.  Joined the National Program Staff of ARS as National Program Leader for Plant Germplasm in 1986, became the Associate Deputy Administrator for Genetic Resources in 1992 and Assistant Administrator in 1997.  hshands@ars.usda.gov 

Director Emeritus - Dr. Steve A. Eberhart  (Ph.D. 1961).  Retired March 2000. North Carolina State University, major Genetics/Statistics. Research Experience: Development of statistical genetic models that have been widely used and empirical evaluations of breeding methodologies. Administrative Experience: Director of NSSL and Vice President of Research for Funk Seeds, a Ciba-Geigy Company. nsslse@ars-grin.gov
