Canes and shoots have scales on them
San Jose Scale
- Causal organism: Aspidiotus perniciosus Comst., North
America and Europe
- Crops affected: Black, red, white, and ornamental currants,
gooseberries, species.
Scale insects feed on plant juices, and in severe cases, cause
reduced plant vigor. This photograph was taken of scale on a black
currant, Ribes nigrum cv. Ben Sarek, growing in cultivation in
Corvallis, Oregon.
