Mission:The mission of the Seed Viability and Storage Research Unit, National Seed Storage Laboratory, is to effectively document, preserve, and maintain viable seed and propagules of diverse plant germplasm in long-term storage, to develop and evaluate procedures for determining seed quality of accessions, and to provide administrative support to allow for effective operation of this Unit. The mission also includes the distribution of seed, when not available from the active collections, for crop improvement throughout the world. Specific objectives are:
Staff:DR. LOREN E. WIESNER: Supervisory Plant Physiologist/Research Leader; Ph.D. (1971) Oregon State University, Major: Seed Physiology. Research Experience: Developmental physiology of cereals and forage legumes and grasses, germination physiology, vigor, dormancy, seedling growth and purity testing. lwiesner@lamar.colostate.eduMR. NAHM-SU KIM: Visiting Scientist - Director of the Andong Branch Office, National Seeds Management Office, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Andong Korea. He will be studying all phases of genebank management which includes quality evaluation of germplasm, storage and monitoring of germplasm, data storage and retrieval and research. His overall objective is to establish a genebank for Korea.
