Instructions For Planting Potato Seeds

1.  Prepare an adequate volume of 1500-2000 ppm Gibberellic Acid (GA3).  To insure dissolution, it is best to stir (without heating) for at least one hour.  GA solution may be kept refrigerated for at least one month.

 2.  Cover seeds with GA in small 1.5 ml Eppendorf centrifuge tubes.  Be sure seeds are submerged in liquid.  Treat at room temperature for about 24 hours.

 3.  Decant off GA and rinse with tap water.  Seedlings may be elongated if not rinsed, but this is rarely a serious problem.

 4.  Fill 3-inch clay pots with moistened potting mix to one inch of rim and press down flat.

 5.  When ready to sow, wash seeds into pots with a squirt bottle.  Take care to evenly disperse seeds in the pot.  Unless poor germination is expected, not more than 50 seeds per pot is recommended.

 6.  Immediately cover seeds with ¼ inch of vermiculite and water gently to avoid disturbing the seeds.

 7.  Seedlings may be transplanted when about one inch tall or have one true leaf (usually two to three weeks).

 8.  Transplant into two-inch peat pots or similar containers.  After two to three weeks, plant to the field or a larger pot.
