In part, the models used in this article "predict that plants from northern Japan are best adapted to sites in the northeastern United States where moisture surpluses exceed those typically found in the north central United States."

Four trial sites evaluated this accession through the 5-year evaluation period; one site reported on living plants for the entire 10-year period. The Lincoln, NE site reported slight damage to foliage. No site recommended this accession, and two sites reported poor winter hardiness.

Five sites evaluated this accession through the 5-year evaluation period; three sites reported on living plants through the 10-year period. The Chanhassen, MN site removed the plants in 1992. Three sites reported the foliage was unsightly due to leaf spot and necrosis. No site recommended this accession siting twig and dull appearance, leaf drop, leaf spot, and poor vigor.

Rosa rugosa PI 479562 rugosa rose
Nine sites evaluated this accession through the 5-year evaluation period; seven sites reported on living plants through the 10-year evaluation period. Eight sites reported the foliage was clean all season though the Chanhassen, MN and Carrington, ND sites reported slight to severe stem galls, borers, and cankers. The Morris, MN site reported slight leaf damage and browning of new growth. Six sites reported showy flowers and fruits. This accession was recommended by six sites. Low-growing habit, ease of growing, groundcover attributes, hardiness, disease free plants, repeat blooming, and excellent fruit display were all reported as good ornamental qualities of this accession. Two sites did not recommend this accession siting stem dieback to the snowline in '89-90 (Grand Rapids, MN) and leaf browning (Morris, MN).

Ulmus sp. 'Regal' Ames 3503 'Regal' hybrid elm
Seven sites evaluated this accession through the 5-year evaluation period; five sites reported on living plants through the 10-year evaluation period. The East Lansing, MI site removed this accession in 1994 for lathhouse construction. Four sites reported the foliage was clean all season. The Ames, IA and Wichita, KS sites recommended the accession noting that it was a tough tree though as yet not overly ornamental. The other two sites, Fargo and Carrington, ND, did not recommend the accession siting freezeback occurring one out of every three years.

The Chanhassen, MN site reported the foliage of this accession was clean all season. Three sites reported slight to severe winter injury. The Wichita, KS site reported considerable stem dieback some years although the plants did flower most years. No other sites reported flowering. All five sites reporting on suitability did not recommend this accession siting poor winter hardiness.
